Auditions are held year-round, and audition times are based on the rehearsal times of the orchestra for which the musician is applying (please refer to Q4 in the FAQ section). Location is the rehearsal venue of the orchestra, at the Concert Hall backstage or the Grand Theatre backstage of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
A typical audition lasts around 10 minutes. Interested musicians are asked to prepare two complete and contrasting pieces or movements that showcase their musical and technical abilities. Audition pieces are limited to classical music, and do not include orchestral excerpts or music of other genres. Applicants will also be given a short excerpt as a sight reading test. Memorization of music is not required, and please do not bring an accompanist. Please also remember to be punctual, and get to the audition location ahead of time. Refer to Q10 in the FAQ section for more details.
Audition results will either be announced to the applicant right after the audition, or be sent via correspondence within a week after the audition has taken place.
