What
is SO?
Tailor-made
for young players at a more advanced level, the Symphony Orchestra
(SO) is for players who have obtained ABRSM Grade 8 or above and
equivalent, and plenty of orchestral experience. Members are further
exposed to an extensive range of challenging orchestral repertoire
through weekly rehearsals, and have collaborated with internationally
renowned masters such as violinist Lin Cho-liang, Lu Siqing, cellist
Wang Jian, pianist Michelle Kim, maestro Nikolaus Harnoncourt and
Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr Yang Li of the Central Conservatory
of Music of Beijing, as well as theatrical artists from Magic Circle
Mime Co. from U.S, amongst others. Players are also offered more
performing opportunities, through which they learn the importance of
perseverance in achieving artistic excellence.
MYO
members undergo music training at various music institutes and
perform around the globe in summer. They are stimulated by different
learning cultures, motivated to self-explore, and inspired to
experience again the joy of music learning by partaking in music
festivals, in which they could learn from orchestras from other
countries. The MYO has visited Austria, UK, Beijing, Tianjiang,
Shanghai and Japan and was honoured to be invited to perform at the
prestigious Musikverein in 2012 & 2013.
Besides
pursuing artistic excellence, the orchestra continues to encourage
and ignite the souls of people from all walks of life by joining
hands with numerous inspirational artists, like limbless life warrior
Nick Vujicic, one-handed violinist Adrian Anantawan, (Canada/ U.S.),
four-fingered pianists Lee Hee-Ah (Korea), local blind singer Pinky
Li, visually impaired pianist Lee Hin and autistic pianist Lau Chi
Ming.
Members
perform sophisticated repertoire in a variety of performance
platforms, not only in concerts with world-class musicians and
conductors, but also in our flash mob performances in the past two
seasons, bringing music to serve the community.
